Jacksonville is a huge city encompassing 867 sq, miles and is so large that most residents rarely leave the city limits. It is roughly defined by its neighborhoods which are larger than most cities.

Since 1968 when Jacksonville (called Cowford from 1791-1822) consolidated their county government, it has been the largest city in area in the continental United States. Jacksonville has approximately 850,000 residents and over 1,278,000 in it's metro area making it the third most populated city on the east coast. Its parks, miles of beaches, waterways, major symphony orchestra, a sports entertainment complex and a myriad of special events add to Jacksonville's quality of life. Jacksonville is the home of the NFL Jaguars and has one of the largest urban park systems in the country which encompasses 82,000 acres of land providing camping, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, kayaking, swimming, surfing and volleyball. Due to its convenient location, mild climate, reasonable cost of living and high quality of life, Jacksonville is a popular city for relocation. Jacksonville has an abundance of superb sports and recreational facilities like the 76,000-seat Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, the award winning 10,000 seat Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville and a new, state of the art arena seating 16,000, and is home to the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Jacksonville is also known for its more than fifty golf courses.

Veterans Memorial Arena is a new 16,000 seat arena which hosts Hockey, Basketball and concerts with a state of the art sound system. It includes a spacious lobby which is home to the new Jacksonville Hall of Fame exhibit.

Jacksonville Municipal Stadium is home to the NFL Jaguars and is only a 20 minute drive from the airport.

Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville boasts a historic look from the past, it features all of today's conveniences including dugout and club seating, 12 air-conditioned suites, six party decks, covered seating, and berm seating. In addition, there are four locker rooms, two indoor batting tunnels, two training rooms, and a weight room.

Prime Osborn Convention Center is home to  conventions, trade shows and other large-scale public events ranging from international exhibits to corporate and professional events of national magnitude.

Jacksonville Equestrian Center has hosted concerts, motor sport events, festivals and rodeos. Local, regional and national equestrian competitions are held with events such as the National Team Roping League World Finals, The National Barrel Horse Association Shamrock Showdown and the American Hanoverian Society Annual Symposium.
